I was recently given an exercise in which I was asked to remember my teen years and to recall something I was afraid of. I was surprised what came up. One of my main fears was that I would not “succeed” as a musician. The interesting reason is WHY I was afraid.
I loved music so much. I was afraid that the day would come that if I wasn’t good enough, music would be taken away from me somehow. WHY DID I THINK THAT?
From my perspective, anytime anyone is being a creator instead of a consumer, that’s a good thing. It’s that simple.
If there are any young artists reading this, let me tell you something:
What you are doing matters so much more than you know.
Keep creating beautiful things.
Don’t stop, ever.
At Roots Music Project we help prepare you for a life in music. Nobody can promise you a career in music. If they do, I'm afraid to say you shouldn't believe them.
But I can promise you a life in music - which is much deeper, much more meaningful, and much more important than being famous. Trust me.
For some of you, your life in music will lead you to a career in music.
For all of you, we can make sure that your musical roots go deep. We can promise you that music will become part of who you are; something that nobody can take away. We can promise you that you will personally be able to know that you changed people's lives for the better through music.
Roots Music Project is a record label for young Songwriters, Jazz Musicians, and Composers. It is not for everyone, but here is a good indicator you would really enjoy working with us:
(1) You are serious about music and you want to make music for the rest of your life.
(2) You want to know that you are using your talent to make a difference in the lives of others.
Whether you work with us or not, I want to quickly explain how you can learn the most about music in the least amount of time. It is not the easiest way, but it is the fastest. It takes a great deal of courage. It’s what I call musical CPR: (1) Compose your own original music. (2) Perform your original music with a band (3) Record your original music and share it with others. If you can make musical CPR a habit, the game is over. You WILL make music that impacts people.
I didn’t start doing musical CPR until I was 35. That is when my life in music really started.
When will you start? How about NOW.
To find out more about the Roots Music Project I need you to do one thing:
Set up a FREE appointment with me. - I would like to discuss your musical goals with you. I have been where you are and I am passionate about mentoring young musicians. I have been doing it for 15 years and have helped hundreds of young musicians create and share their music.
Whether you are already writing great music or you are just getting started, I would like to see if I can help you.
Nobody is going to hear your music unless you do something about it. And that would be sad on several fronts. It would be sad for you. And it would be sad for the people who need to hear your music.
I want you to know the joy that comes from knowing the music YOU created changed other people’s lives. There is nothing like it in the world.
Actually, there is one thing that is even better: watching one of your students change other people’s lives through music. That is a feeling I can’t get enough of.
Here’s hoping YOUR song gets heard!
